Tends machine equipped with compressed air spray nozzles that coat products or materials with oil, paint, lacquer, varnish, shellac, or rustproofing agents by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Pours premixed paint or lacquer into reservoir of machine and couples hose to spray nozzles.
Mixes paints with thinner solution according to formula.
Prepares paint equipment by turning on agitator and exhaust fans, plugging in barrel heater, opening air valve, checking paint mask and cleaning mask if needed.
Visually checks units and parts to ensure quality cleaning and final assembly process.
Prepares units or parts for painting by sanding off rough spots with orbital sander, greasing tube holes, blowing dust off and using a pot gun connected to remove oil and grease off metal.
Connects gun to air hose using wrenches, starts air compressor, turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray.
Finish paints prime products and/or transportation equipment.
Maintain quality finish, free of runs, sags, etc.
Places appropriate markings or decals on finished unit or part.
Reviews work list with Section Manager to determine status and priority of work to be performed.
Completes labor reporting work sheet daily.
Able to work overtime as needed either daily or weekends.
Able to work flexible hours and different shifts, if needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with industrial or automotive spray painting.
Prior experience painting Forest Products parts and products.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
