Major Duties and Responsibilities This position is responsible for performing financial analysis duties required for the Tax Commissioner’s Office.
Develops, enhances, and maintains standards, guidelines, and procedures.
Verifies all daily cashiering reports; maintains daily cash journal.
Prepares bank deposits, and coordinates cash pick-ups and change orders.
Researches overages, shortages, and other accounting issues.
Manages returned check process, monitors returned check vendor’s collection status, and notifies Deputy Tax Commissioner when to take additional collection actions.
Directs and oversees the bank reconciliations process and ensures internal control procedures are in place.
Creates graphs, spreadsheets, tables, graphics, and summary text to provide information.
Performs special projects requiring research and written reports.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the principles and practices of public finance, governmental accounting, and auditing.
Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, local ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of financial research, statistical analysis, and report presentation.
Skills in applying auditing procedures, techniques, and practices.
Skill in problem-solving and decision-making.
Skill in gathering and analyzing complex data.
Skill in operating standard office equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in Microsoft Office software programs.
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Financial Planning, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Physical Requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table.
The employee must occasionally lift light objects.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Balancing – maintain equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching.
Feeling – perceiving attributes of objects by touch with skin, fingertips.
Grasping – applying pressure to object with fingers, palm.
Handling – picking, holding, or working with whole hand.
Hearing 1 – perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, receive information.
Kneeling – bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.
Lifting – raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.
Manual Dexterity – picking, pinching, typing, working with fingers rather than hand.
Mental Acuity – ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.
Pushing – use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.
Reaching – extending hands or arms in any direction.
Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.
Standing – for sustained periods of time.
Stooping – bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.
Talking 1- expressing ideas by spoken word Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.
The work is typically performed in an office.
